Special thanks to Carmel Ecker for this well written piece.
                                                                                       Bonnie
Presentation of Lloydminster's Centennial Commemorative Collector Plate to Prince Edward in 2003   Presentation of very first Canadian Forces Badge Plate to General Hillier, June 14th, 2008

Canadian Forces Badge Plates are extremely high quality pieces created by Canadian artisan, Bonnie Saunders. In 2003, Bonnie had the distinct honor of presenting a custom piece of art to His Royal Highness,  The Earl of Wessex, and, in 2008, the prestigious honor of presenting the very first Canadian Forces Badge Plate to Chief of the Defence Staff, General Hillier.  Bonnie has extended her unique talent to include "badges" to her repertoire and has been granted approval for use of each badge image by Crown Copyright & Licensing as well as the Department of National Defence/Canadian Forces (DND/CF).  Bonnie is very grateful for the assistance of the Directorate of History and Heritage (DHH) to be able to make these mementos available to you.

These collectable badge plates represent some of the many badges of the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces.  When viewing these honorable badges, we are reminded of the men and women of the Canadian Forces, whom, as military professionals, serve in different environments, wear different ranks and are developed in a wide variety of different occupations. As they cope with the extreme demands, frequent hardships and ever-present danger, their service to Canada is, and always shall be their primary duty.

These stunning Canadian Forces Badge Plates make a very thoughtful gift and are an excellent method to commemorate a variety of occasions for one's service to Canada:

    * a loved one (spouse, son, daughter, grandchild, etc) graduating from the Royal Military College
   * a family member or loved one returning from a tour in Afghanistan or another part of the world
    * a retirement or transfer
    * paying tribute to a veteran
   * a gift from a family to a member
    * a personal keepsake
* a military memorabilia collectable
*change of command gift

These admirable and meritorious Canadian Forces tokens will be cherished by members and their families forever. Military memorabilia collectors worldwide will also be pleased to add these pieces to their collection.

The Process

PROUDLY CANADIAN MADE!

Each Canadian Forces Badge Plate begins as a clear glass plate which becomes transformed into an exceptional, high quality keepsake.  With fourteen complex steps from start to finish, the creation process poses a high degree of difficulty. The delicate procedures result in the brilliantly rich crackle which receives and illuminates light and provides a unique element of depth to each piece. These remarkable heirlooms are rendered individually by Bonnie, with all processes administered on the backside of the glass.

Each plate is framed in an open faced, solid wood shadow box lined with red ultra suede. A custom engraved black plaque adds a personalized touch to these Canadian Forces mementos, which can be either wall mounted or displayed on a stand.  A bilingual certificate of authenticity is also provided.

“The beautiful Canadian Forces Badge Plates, crafted by Bonnie Saunders, make a unique and meaningful commemorative statement for a wide variety of occasions.  We were most pleased to have Bonnie present the very first CF Badge Plate to General Rick Hillier in Calgary, on 14 June 2008 at the Military Families Fund Gala, just prior to his retirement, as a unique momento of his outstanding service to Canada."
